Gambler Jiko Chuushinha 2 (lit. The Egocentric Gambler 2) is a mahjong simulation game developed by Bits Laboratory and published by Game Arts. It is based on the manga of the same name by Young Magazine.
Even though the era has moved from the Showa to the Heisei era, the battle of the Gamblers has continued without any change. The battle between octopuses and anti-octopuses, which began in Tokyo, spread throughout Japan, with fierce death matches taking place in various locations...
The Anti-Octopus team is led by Masumi Saito, a bunny-girl, and the Octopus team is led by Masayuki Katayama (also the creator of the manga this game is based on).
The game offers a few different modes;
Free Battle (フリーたいせん): Play an exhibition game of Mahjong with three other computer opponents.
Octopus Battle (タコがっせん): Choose either the Octopus or Anti-Octopus team, choose a city in Japan you want to conquer, and face off against the computer player on a hex map. Contact with the enemy results in a game of mahjong. The loser loses one of their icons on the hex map.
Elimination Game (かちぬきせん): Face off against the other AI opponents and win.
Memory Initalization (メモリしょうきか): Manage the game's memory. You can delete your data if you want to.

Music
For 1990, the game's music leaves a lot to be desired. While most of the music is nice and catchy (such as the Title Screen and Map themes), the main theme during a game of mahjong is a very short repetitive loop. Since each mahjong game in the game takes several minutes, it doesn't take long to get annoying. The menu is curiously silent, when the developers could have easily added an existing tune to it. Also, most songs in the game do not loop, and there's only a total of eleven tracks. The music is a blend of various genres; Title Screen is a fast-paced rock number, Prologue is an upbeat march, Main Theme is a traditional Japanese theme, and the Map music is a moderate-tempo march anthem as well, which fits with the militaristic theme of the two teams. There are also various jingles for when certain mahjong hands are called such as Chii, Riichi, and Ron.
The music was written by Mecano Associates members Fumihito Kasatani and Nobuyuki Aoshima, who had scored the previous game earlier. However, unlike that title, this game makes use of Hiroshi Nakamura's sound driver, which is much better in fidelity. This sound driver is probably best known for being used in Rad Racer 2.
Nakamura's driver required the use of assembly macros, so it's possible Nakamura arranged the composers' music.

The game's credits are displayed after beating both the Octopus Battle and Elimination Mode. Only the companies that did the music are credited, rather than individuals; Mecano Associates and Bits Laboratory. We have contacted Fumihito Kasatani and asked if he worked on this game. He said it's very possible he worked on it, but due to the passing years, his memory was pretty hazy. This would make sense, as they are credited in most other games in the series, including the game's prequel.
Other games that use this game's driver usually credit it to Hiroshi Nakamura, so he is identified as the person behind Bits Laboratory. Some of these games include Minna no Taabou no Nakayoshi Daisakusen and Rad Racer 2. The Famicom game Mahou no Princess Minky Momo: Remember Dream credits him as "Yodapy Planning".
