Xatax is a fairly standard scrolling shoot-em-up with several power-ups to get, enemies to blast, and levels to conquer. As with most shumps, you're the last chance your home world has at destroying an unstoppable threat. The plot is cliché, but time-tested, and the game is fun, but for a 1994 game, nothing new is brought to the table. And for a game in 1994, it's not very impressive.

Music

The music, like the game, is decent, but nothing to write home about. It's fitting for the theme of the game.

Xatax auto-detects your sound card. It will work with a Sound Blaster 1 or 2, Sound Blaster Pro 1 or 2, or a Sound Blaster 16. However, it only supports 8-bit audio, so even if you have a Sound Blaster 16, it treats it as though it's a Sound Blaster Pro.
