Virtua Fighter in Japanese ('バーチャファイター - Bāchafaitā), is a fighting game, being a pioneer in 3D gaming (being the first polygon-based 3D fighting game), developed by SEGA-AM2 Co, LTD and published by Sega for the Sega Model 1 arcade board in 1993 in Japan, USA-Canada and Europe.

Its plot is centered during the Showa era, the Japanese army tried to approach Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing dynasty, in an attempt to take advantage of him. However, they were defeated by janissaries who used a martial art called "Hakkyoku-ken". Later, it was said that the Japanese army copied the secrets of "Bajiquan" to create the strongest infantry and, based on this technique, supplemented with the ultimate martial arts.

Half a century has passed since then, and now a young man named Akira Yuki travels the world to test his martial arts skills. The Ultimate World Fighting Competition is about to begin. All kinds of fighters from all over the world rely on their own physical strength to participate in a life-or-death contest to determine the number one fighter in the world. However, behind the tournament lies a conspiracy planned by an evil group.

This game had a very good reception, the critics said 'A boom of the time in the polygonal world', remaining in a legacy as the pioneer of 3D games, receiving two versions, Sega 32X and Saturn.

Music, mechanics, plot, movements, sounds, voices, animations and difficulty is what makes this game squeeze the Sega Model 1 with very advanced technology for its time.

The development is in charge of the guru of Sega, Yu Suzuki and the AM2 team which were the most important of Sega at the time which made many games that challenged the different hardwares released by Sega including the most difficult one the Sega Saturn.

The author of the music was the amazing Takayuki Nakamura (known for several games like Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (GEN), Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (SMS) and the 32X and Saturn version of Virtua Fighter, etc. ), the Sega Model 1 board as hardware had 2 sound chips which were, 2 x Sega MultiPCM custom 28 channel PCM chips @ 8 MHz, 1 for music and 1 for effects, which made the tunes seem to be played in CD quality system, each one can access a sample ROM of up to 8 megabytes *per chip*.

Zilog Z80 would be the second chip to do the audio data processing which made the job of playing different sound files easier.

The music had a Streets of Rage look to it, this was very characteristic as all the fighters had their own exclusive theme per round and voices per character, which on the 32X could almost be imitated but on the Sega Saturn they were of ultra-high quality.

All a splendor of the saga iconicas melodies as a reference of fighting game very important for gamers.
