Turkey In the Straw is an American folk song dating from the early 19th century. The tune is derived from the ballad "My Grandmother Lived On Yonder Little Green" which was derivative of the Irish ballad "The Old Rose Tree." The song gained in popularity in the 1820s because of performances in blackface. A later song called "Zip Coon" used the tune and added lyrics.
