Touhou Reiiden ~ Highly Responsive to Prayers. (東方霊異伝 ~ Highly Responsive to Prayers.) is a doujin puzzle game released in 1996 for the NEC PC-9801, and the first in the Touhou Project series. Like all other Touhou games, it was developed solely by Junya Ota (pen name ZUN) under the name "ZUN Soft". Unlike other Touhou games, however, this game is a clone of Arkanoid, although it does keep elements in later Touhou games.

The game stars series mainstay Reimu Hakurei, who can use her gohei to manipulate a Yin-Yang orb into hitting cards and enemies laid out everywhere in the stage. Each level ends once all of the cards have been cleared from the stage, and every five levels features a boss stage. After the first boss, the player has a choice of going on the Hell path or the Makai path, both of which are completely different in terms of levels, bosses, endings and music.

Music

Being ZUN's first soundtrack, this soundtrack doesn't really have the "ZUN style" that later games have developed. Nevertheless, the soundtrack as a whole is good on normal standards, even if listeners accustomed to the sound of later games may find it less memorable.

Touhou Reiiden is different from all of the other PC98 Touhou games in that it only has one soundtrack using the YM2608; the original second game only has a single YM2203 soundtrack, while the third, fourth and fifth all have YM2203 and YM2608 soundtracks.

The entire soundtrack (sans Shrine of the Wind since it is unused originally) was entirely remade twice over in Touhou Kaikidan ~ Mystic Square., unlike the other three games before it that simply had their soundtracks imported over. (or remastered in the case of the YM2608 soundtrack for the second game)
