- For other games in the series, see The Hunt for Red October.
The Hunt for Red October is a side-scroller that is loosely based on the movie of the same name. The player plays as the Red October submarine and must fight their way through the game. The game is very odd, as one of the boss battles involves battling a giant squid, which was not in the movie.

Music
Most of the songs are classical pieces, mostly by Beethoven, and arranged to the SNES by John Spence. Most of the soundtrack consists of the various movements from Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, including two different arrangements of Ode to Joy, and Modest Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain. Though fitting to use classical pieces (especially Ode to Joy, as it was used in can be heard in the film, it also seems lazy to fill the game's soundtrack with classical music, or it's possible the composer was under time constraints. Nevertheless, the arrangements sound good in 16-bit form.
Spence used the Chip Level Designs music driver.
