Song-List or Song-Box in lists?

A minor conflict of interest might be here. ;) User:Doommaster1994 keeps changing samples in lists to Template:Song-List (recent example), and User:TheAlmightyGuru to Template:Song-Box (recent example). The only real difference is that Song-Box is three times as wide as Song-List.

I've been simply going with TheAlmightyGuru, but come to think of it, Song-List makes more sense in lists... does it not? The Song-Box sure is ideal for Template:Infobox Song, but it merely stretches the lists; the only gain I see is when you click a sample from a list and the position bar is wider? A long time ago, we were using a different plug-in for Ogg Vorbis files and it could be resized to a short width. So, for lists, I used a narrow player, but, for the template boxes on the pages, I used a wide player to fit the larger boxes. This old player was supplanted when Wiki Media incorporated a new media player into its default build, and this player wouldn't resize to the narrow width, so I had to make the Song-List template just as wide as the Song-Box template. Since they're now the same, I've slowly been changing Song-List over to Song-Box whenever I modify a page in order to slowly phase out Song-List and have one less template to worry about. Hm, I understand, except: Are you saying that Song-Box and Song-List are (looking) the same? Because at least in Firefox, they're definitely not. Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle currently uses both Song-Box and Song-List... now that single detail is of course some editor error ;-) ... but it does show how my Firefox parses the templates: the top sample is in fact narrow, and the bottom sample is in fact wide. I've still chosen to take the liberty and replace Song-Box with Song-List for two reasons. (1) Semantics. It is a list after all, not a box. :-) (2) Future. The player may have become "broken" one day, but who knows, maybe it'll be fixed another day? Then all List-to-Box-work will be in vain. Also, two templates don't seem so much "to worry about" (as put above) to me... is it though? --Professor Chaos (talk) 17:13, 25 March 2024 (EDT)
