- For other games in the series see Streets of Rage.
Streets of Rage 2 improved upon the formula of the first game with more playable characters, more enemies, and more moves. The graphics are better, the music is better, and the animation is smoother. Overall, it's a great game, and one of the best beat-em-ups of any system. The story is still cliché, Mr. X somehow survived the ordeal from the first game and has risen to power again. He has kidnapped Adam and the streets have been filled with gangs once more. So, you run through the streets beating the crap out of everyone until you make it to Mr. X's stronghold and bust things up real nice.

Music
Like other aspects of the game, the music has been considerably improved upon since the sequel. Most of the tracks feature an early 1990s techno beat, with elements of trance and house thrown in. The soundtrack was so loved that it warranted a soundtrack release in both Japan and the USA. Yuzo Koshiro created all of the sound effects and composed the bulk of the music by himself, although Motohiro Kawashima helped by composing tracks 16, 17, 24, and co-writing track 14.
The track titles come from the official soundtrack. Tracks 22 and 24 are in the ROM, but are not used in the game. Track 23 was in the beta version of the game, but removed for the final release.
