Once you start playing, the C64's memory is as good as full, hence the C64 version lacks many features from all other versions: the game-over text, the starfield behind the level, possibly the heart limit in the bonus level, redefining keys after the main menu has appeared, and sound effects.

Music

All three teenage Maniacs of Noise produced a new soundtrack for the Commodore 64 version, arranging by typing hexadecimal numbers into Turbo Ass. The same compositions were rearranged for the Amiga ones by themselves (in turn for the DOS one by Tony Williams) and the Atari ST one (probably not the other way round) by Jochen Hippel. All other versions use completely different composers.

Charles Deenen took the order and called Jeroen Tel and Johannes Bjerregaard to compose sort of spooky disco music. Deenen himself created 16 sound effects, but they were never included with the game, probably because the 1562 bytes did not fit anymore. Sound effects and music at the same time would not have been permitted, which was usual for both MoN and Stormlord. Unlike all other versions, the sound effects also do not include a wolf whistle.

Despite the rip being voted 28th favorite top SID by HVSC in 2000 and Tel being a Bjerregaard fan, Bjerregaard himself was notoriously self-critical. A demoscene magazine quoted him in August 1989 as writing:

The worst disco-crap I've ever done !!! The intro-tune with those samples was made by Jeroen Tel. [...] Rating Stormlord 10/10 in audio although I'd have rated it 3/10 maximum !

Furthermore, the game neglects to credit Bjerregaard. He had composed for Hewson over four months before MoN was even founded, but it was his first Hewson work since being invited to MoN (about seven months before release), so Hewson likely just missed it. Jens-Christian Huus told in 1996:

I asked him: "aren't you pissed off about this? [...]" And his answer: "Not really, as long as I get my money!"

Audio Devices

This game uses the computer's built-in SID chip. All songs sound different on some 6581s because they use SID's inconsistent low-pass filter. On most 8580s, several instruments in Title Music are almost mute. Unlike the Amiga and Atari ST ports, an official NTSC release is not known.
