Special FX Software was founded by Paul Finnegan and Joffa Smith after they both left Ocean Software. The company eventually evolved into Rage Software.

Music Development
C64
At first, Special FX's titles were composed by Fred Gray and therefore used his own driver. It later used Ocean Software's sound driver.
GB/NES
Special FX used Jonathan Dunn's sound driver, as most of their games were published by Ocean. To create music on Jonathan Dunn's NES and Game Boy sound driver, music and sound effects had to be written in 6502 and Z80 assembly respectively.
