Sonic the Hedgehog |

|
Sonic the Hedgehog is a platform action game where you play a fast-running hedgehog named Sonic who is trying to stop the evil Dr. Robotnik from enslaving your animal pals. The game is very fast-paced and requires quick reflexes in order to beat up enemy robots and collect rings and chaos emeralds. It's a rather exciting game especially when you get hurled at breakneck speeds across the levels.
The game is also iconic as Sega's competitive answer to Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. franchise.

Music
Each zone has its own well-composed music that is appropriate to the theme of the area. There are also plenty of fanfares and short tunes to give the game's audio a lot of depth. Masato Nakamura composed the music on a PC-9801 computer and then Hiroshi Kubota rearranged it to work with the Sega Team's Genesis audio driver to play on the YM2612.
It is also interesting to note that the jingle that plays when Sonic collects a ring is used throughout many cash registers at convenience stores across the United States.
