Title Origin Official

Some Things Never Change is the dance-pop song from Total Devo album by Devo, a new-wave Ohio band. Although the album was not successful (it was pointed out as "bland and uninnovative"), this song has received some praise from reviewers at that time. It's mostly known from the game "Neuromancer" (mostly C64 version).

The C64 port of this game features two versions of Some Things Never Change.

To the title screen, the first version, namely two samples of 4 bars each plays at 14101 Hz (NTSC), 2-bit. The first sample is played twice, the second sample lacks one eighth note. It's the only version with lyrics (even the version for the more powerful Amiga is instrumental):

Some things never change
Some things never change
I saw the news today, oh boy
(Hang your head)

The second version was arranged for the PSG in the SID chip and sounds the same on every revision. The instruments are not very impressive for 1988.

Both versions are the first tracks in different SID files of the rip of this game.

Lyrics

This song has lyrics, although only Commodore 64 version has it partially:

Hang your head
Hang your head
Hang your head
Hang your head

Some things never change
Some things never change

Hang your head
Hang your head

I saw the news today, oh boy
(Hang your head)
A thousand starry skies we've seen before
(Hang your head)

Small minds play at some big time games
And everybody else pays
Make no mistake, they're on the take
They like to keep it that way

Some things never change
Some things never change

I saw the light today, oh boy
(Hang your head)
It came on flashing bright, in red and blue
(Hang your head)

The man steps in with a terminal grin
Blue skies turn to gray
Young men die and the children cry, why is
It always the same?
(Hang your head)

Life must be eaten, or at least bitten into
To get past the surface, the moment of truth
You know when it's right, it's sweet deep inside
It's real and it's better that some things don't change

I saw the news today, oh boy
(Hang your head)
A thousand pictures of the lies we live
(Hang your head)

Small minds play at some big time games
And everybody else pays
(Hang your head)
They're on the take, and they don't give breaks

They like to take it away
(Hang your head)
(Hang your head)

Some things never change
(Hang your head)
Some things never change
(Hang your head)

Man steps in with a terminal grin
Blue skies turn to gray
(Hang your head)
Young men die, and the children cry, why is

It always the same?
(Hang your head)
(Hang your head)
(Hang your head)
