Ridge Racer 64 is a remastered racing game for the Nintendo 64 console licensed by Namco Limited and developed by Nintendo Software Technology Corporation and published by Namco for the United States, Europe and Australia. It was released on February 14, 2000 and is part of the popular Ridge Racer series. This adaptation includes tracks from Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer Revolution, as well as a Nintendo 64-exclusive collection of desert tracks called Renegade.
The same game later appeared on another console with the release of Ridge Racer DS on the Nintendo DS, based on the Nintendo 64 video game. The game was remastered to take advantage of DS features such as the touch screen and wireless multiplayer, while offering a very similar experience to the original.
As a racing game, Ridge Racer 64 features an arcade style gameplay with fast-paced racing and a focus on drifting mechanics. The game offers several game modes, such as Grand Prix, Time Attack, Versus and multiplayer options. In Grand Prix mode, players compete in a series of races across multiple tracks in an attempt to become the champion.
Ridge Racer 64 includes a total of 25 different tracks, which are divided into four different classes: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Extra. The Novice and Intermediate tracks are adaptations of tracks from previous Ridge Racer games, while the Advanced and Extra tracks are new to Ridge Racer 64.
The game features 18 different cars, each with its own speed, handling and acceleration characteristics. Players can choose from a wide variety of vehicles to suit their racing style.
In terms of graphics and presentation, Ridge Racer 64 offers a 3D racing experience with detailed environments and smooth gameplay. The game also includes a multiplayer mode that allows up to four players to compete against each other in split-screen.
The Ridge Racer 64 title is considered a solid entry in the Ridge Racer series and offers an enjoyable racing experience to Nintendo 64 owners.

It features a soundtrack and sound ambience characteristic of the Ridge Racer series. Although the Nintendo 64 version does not feature the same amount of audio tracks as some of the previous titles in the series, it still offers an exciting driving experience with music that suits the arcade style of the game.
Keith Arem (PCB Productions employee) is the original composer for namco's game for this console, composing new tracks based on the PlayStation games. 12 tracks were composed in USF format, arranged by the audio engineers of Emory Georges & Rory Johnston, compressed smoothly on a 32 MB cartridge. The Galaga Pac Jam theme was originally composed by Lawrence Schwedler.
One of each track in the game has a unique melody that changes with difficulty level and scenario. For example, urban tracks may feature more upbeat and frantic music, while mountain tracks may feature more ambient and relaxing music.
Also noteworthy is Ridge Racer 64's sound design. Realistic sound effects, including engine noise, screeching tires on turns and ambient noises, can be heard during races. These effects add to the realism of the game and help the player become fully immersed in the driving experience.
Overall, Ridge Racer 64's soundtrack and music help create an engaging and exciting racing experience. In addition to keeping players' adrenaline pumping during races, the combination of upbeat electronic music and realistic sound effects gives the arcade aesthetic of the Ridge Racer series a unique twist.
