Ridge Racer (リッジレーサー Rijji Rēsā) is an arcade port exclusively for the Sony PlayStation, it is an arcade racing game that emphasizes speed and fun over realistic driving simulations. Choose from 4 fantastic cars (plus 9 more to unlock yourself) and race against a variety of computer controlled opponents and against time on a series of equally exciting tracks, this game was developed by Namco (NAMCOT) and distributed by Sony Computer Entertainment and Namco Limited worldwide.
This game was compatible with various controllers and even those developed by Namco such as JogCon and NeGcon that were used for games in the series and was even compatible with Gran Turismo (PS1).
Its graphics were at the height of the arcade, since the PlayStation had almost the same hardware that Namco used, which would serve to create the console thanks to Sony and Hitachi, its technical details were impressive for the time, being inspired by the Virtua Racing Deluxe (32X) that had come out in the arcade, Sega 32X and Sega Saturn from Sega AM2.
This game was a competitor to Virtua Racing and Daytona USA on consoles and arcade, it changed the way we look at games and is still going strong today, there is a similar game on Nintendo 64 called Ridge Racer 64 (N64) that borrows some features from the saga only that it was developed by Nintendo not by Namco (licensed yes).

Shinji Hosoe, Nobuyoshi Sano and Ayako Saso were the ones who did the work with Victor Entertainment to create the music in CD version with a high quality of the 12 tracks, at first the team didn't want to include music, but ended up producing music with genre techno, hardcore and gabber.
Tanaka believes this helps gamers enjoy a fun feeling while playing on their home console just like the PlayStation used to be.
