Richard Wagner was a music theorist and conductor. His introduction to music began in 1820 when he received piano lessons at Pastor Wetzel's school. In January 1828, Ludwig van Beethoven became Wagner's major inspiration after listening to Symphony No. 9 in D minor, which inspired him to start making his earliest sonatas and attempts at orchestral overtures.
