Play
Composer Dan Froelich
Released 1992-??-??
Title Origin File Name

Play is a song from Epic Games' two Adventure Math games.

Title

The filename is play.am1 and, apart from am1, may have come directly from Froelich.

Composition

Froelich arranged using a mouse in Visual Composer (probably version 1.5 or later), and somebody optimized his files using ROL2MIDI (an early version).

The structure is:

  1. section A in D major
    1. melody only
    2. bass
    3. arpeggio + drum intro
    4. snare echoes from now on
  2. section B in D minor, bass drum only, bass changes instrument forever
  3. section A in E major
  4. section A in F♯ major
  5. section C in F♯ major, drums rest temporarily
    1. bass one octave down, doubled by two detuned bells
    2. bass back up, bells come along
  6. section B in F♯ minor
  7. section A in E major
    1. bass ends at E as usual
    2. bass ends at C♯
    3. bass ends at C♯ again
    4. song slows down, bass ends back at E

The OPL rhythm mode instruments in order of appearance are:

  1. MARIMBA1: melody of sections A and C, with chorus
  2. OBOE1: initial bass
  3. ?: arpeggio, with echo unless bell is playing
  4. SNARE1
  5. BDRUM1
  6. HIHAT1
  7. ?: section B, bass onwards
  8. ?: bell with chorus
