Phantoms of the Asteroid is a scrolling action-adventure game released for the Commodore 64 in 1986. It features a style of exploration gameplay which would later become associated with Metroid (released the following year). You can also save games on tape.
The cover art reads Phantom of the Asteroids, but the loading screen says Phantom of the Asteroid, while the title screen says Phantoms of the Asteroid. Sources variously use all three titles to refer to the game.

Mastertronic was already a good client of Rob Hubbard. He recorded four tracks and did a perfect job writing the music in assembly.

This game uses the computer's built-in SID chip and sounds the same on every one of them. The NTSC release has not been identified yet, so it is unknown whether the songs were adjusted, or play higher and faster.
