Odell Down Under is an educational game that takes place in the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia. You control various forms of sea life all the while hunting for food, avoiding predators, and trying to remain healthy. The game includes a lot of information about a wide variety of ocean dwelling flora and fauna. Unfortunately, you experience everything the game has to offer in a matter of minutes. The game is a sequel to an earlier MECC title, Odell Lake.

Music
Rob Wallace composed a nice Caribbean-theme soundtrack for the game consisting of eight songs and one fanfare. He wrote all of the music in Digital Orchestrator Pro.
Although Wallace wrote a unique song for each major section of the game (as seen from the titles in the metadata of the MIDI files), the developers chose to take a less-calculated and rather sloppy approach to the music. When playing the challenge, tournament and practice games, you must first pick your fish, so the music plays the information song. The first stage of each of the games continues the information song, even though there is a special song for each. As the player advances to the next stage in the challenge and tournament games, a random song is chosen. The select a fish song is not played when you select a fish, and the Level Promotion fanfare is not played when you complete a level.
Songs starting with a 1 were recorded using a Roland SCC-1, songs starting with a 2 were recorded using a Sound Blaster 16.

Game Rip
The type 1 MIDI files are installed into the root path. The SCC-1 recording was made in foobar2000 using the MIDI Decoder with an SCC-1 sound font. The Sound Blaster 16 recording was made using Windows Media Player in Windows 3.11, emulated in DOSBox. The file EXPL_WIN.MID contains the same song as EXPLMWIN.MID.
The WAV sound effects are embedded into the ODELL.EXE file. They were extracted using Game Audio Player.
