Noriyuki Iwadare is a famed Japanese composer, sound designer and sound programmer. He is perhaps best known for his work with the audio group CUBE. In 1991, Iwadare, along with Kenichi Okuma and Isao Mizoguchi founded Two Five, another audio group specializing in game audio. Iwadare would leave the company in 1997.
His first work was the Genesis version of After Burner II, in which he had to port Hiroshi Kawaguchi's score to the downgraded sound hardware. Iwadare would also work on many more Genesis games. Some of his notable works include the Grandia, Lunar, Langrisser, and Ace Attorney series.
Outside of video game music, Iwadare is also known for his works outside the industry, such as composing the parade music to Tokyo Disney Resort, as well as the opening music to NHK's Art Theatre.
Today, Iwadare continues to be active in the game music industry, and works as a freelance composer, working for many different clients.
Audio Development
Today, Iwadare records using Pro Tools and composes in DP11.
Genesis
For After Burner II, Noriyuki programmed his own sound driver. He wrote a program where he could play MIDI music live on his PC-8801 computer. He then wrote a conversion tool that would convert his PC-8801 MIDI files to the Mega Drive. Many other composers for the Mega Drive would use the same driver.
For his other games, he used a sound driver by his superior Yasuhiro Taguchi.
SNES
For Montstania, Iwadare used a sound driver by Yasuhiro Taguchi.
GBA
Noriyuki used Nintendo's MP2K sound engine.
