Murder on the Mississippi is a Western text adventure game created by Activision for Commodore 64 and Apple II in 1986, in which the player controls a Sherlock Holmes-esque detective named Charles Foxworth along with his servant Regis. While traveling on a boat from St. Louis to New Orleans, the two sleuths find a dead body. So now it's up to them to solve the mystery before the boat reaches New Orleans. The game's story is loosely based on the 1937 novel Death on the Nile.

It was also released in Japan for MSX2 and Famicom under the name Mississippi Satsujin Jiken (ミシシッピー殺人事件) with some notable gameplay differences (e.g. most puzzles were simplified).
