Monopoly (SNES)

- For other games in the series, see Monopoly.
Monopoly is an adaptation of the board game of the same name. Like the NES version, the game was developed by Sculptured Software and published by Parker Bros. This particular version of the game also had a release on the Sega Genesis.
The goal of the game, as suggested by the game's title, is to own the most properties and force the other players into bankruptcy. Along the way, you can trade properties with other players, bid for properties, and even go to jail if you're not careful!
While the SNES version is not a direct port of the NES version, it borrows many of the same elements; the animations and game settings in particular. The game also borrows the same eight AI opponents, but changes their names. Each AI opponent has their own personality to them. The game can be played up to eight players, making for an intense (and excruciatingly long) game of Monopoly.
The game received mixed to positive reviews from players and critics alike, citing the NES version having slightly better execution.

Music
Monopoly features a soundtrack by Neuromantic Productions from the Genesis version, but the quality has improved considerably due to the S-SMP of the SNES. Like the NES version, there is no main background music, and only jingles play during events such as when the player gets a Chance or Community Chest card. The style of music mostly ranges from jazz, to orchestral, and to ragtime. None of the music loops; unusual for a SNES game.
The music was written in Sculptured Software's BMus sound system. However, it is unknown if Neuromantic did the arrangement themselves, or if someone else did them.

(Genesis version; Game lacks credits.)
Parker Bros. prohibited the use of credits in their games at the time. However, a few developers' names appear on the copyright screen. While there are no audio credits in the SNES version, the Genesis version, which shares the same music, credits the music and sounds to "Nuromantic Productions".
Sam Powell took credit for the SNES version of the game on his website, listing his contribution as "Sound Design/Port of Pc". It is unknown if Powell did the music arrangements also or if Neuromantic Productions did it themselves. We reached out to Sam and asked if he ported the music to the SNES version, but he said he has no memory of working on the game.

Audio Devices
The game uses the SNES' S-SMP sound chip. It uses the BMus sound driver.
