Microchip Technology is an American manufacturer of microcontroller, memory, and analog semiconductors. Microchip Technology was founded when General Instrument spun off its microelectronics division as a wholly owned subsidiary in 1987. In 1989, Microchip Technology became an independent company when it was acquired by a group of venture capitalists. The company officially went public in 1993.
Microchip Technology continued to design and manufacture chips throughout the spinoff, though it seems to have ceased production of audio chips.
