Mechanicus is a pinball game with 3 tables for the Commodore 64. Every 100000 points, an exit to the next table opens; on the last table, it leads back to the first table. During the game, you can win "time": As soon as your last ball appears on the plunger, the timer starts to run down, and every time you lose that last ball, 3 minutes are deducted. If you still have time left then, you get another ball.
C64 gamers consider it the best pinball game for their platform. The game and sound driver were programmed by Andras Molnar (under an English translation of his Hungarian name) of Tyrian (DOS) fame.

Music
The two looping songs sound like composed for and, despite the slightly chippy sound, even performed by a real rock band. The guitar is played by two modulated pulse waves and distorted by a band-pass filter, which, on the downside, sounds different on every SID chip.
The game itself is quiet for a pinball table, and the sound is not spread over the 3 hardware channels as well as it could, but the sound effects themselves are atmospheric and the few jingles work well.
Recording
All songs were recorded from the game in VICE 3.2 with the model 6581 (ReSID) and a filter bias of 375, although it is unconfirmed how close it is to what the arranger heard.
