Locomotion is a colorful strategy game where you manipulate switches on train tracks in order to get trains to their expected destinations. Things quickly become complicated as multiple trains being to fill the tracks, and you must prevent them from crashing into one another.

The game was released in both English and German and supports EGA and VGA graphics.

There are plenty of options in the game.

Locomotion features only a title theme song, but it begins with a fitting train track rhythm. Unfortunately, the game sets a few tracks up to mute in the middle. Fortunately, a gamer can fix this by entering:

sound b4a2e

before starting the game.

The music was recorded from the title screen:

  1. as is.
  2. with the above fix on a real Pentium 60 MHz with a Sound Blaster 16 CT1740.

For music, the game calls PlayROL and waits until it returns. If AdLib Sound Driver is not running, PlayROL returns immediately. The driver assumes an Ad Lib Music Synthesizer Card or compatible at port 388hex (or a port specified using the driver's P option), but does not actually check for it. Either way, PlayROL runs for the song's duration, or until a key is pressed. The actual game plays sound effects on the PC Speaker.
