Audio Development
Hörnell felt unable to compose a coherent tune and instead searched books for fitting catchy royalty-free songs. This is probably still true on his retro games, except that the Internet has replaced the books.
Atari ST
In 1986, Richard Jones of Interceptor gave Hörnell an Atari ST, but Hörnell did not get to learn it until autumn 2018. He ported Iceblox Plus (C64) to m68k-atari-mint and the YM2149F sound chip.
Commodore 64
In the 1980s, Hörnell created several simple drivers, first in BASIC, then in 6502 machine language, all tuned at 434 Hz. For Melonmania (C64), he typed The Companion to the Commodore 64 in. When Hörnell found it hard to find songs, he persuaded Johan Vessby to compose all-new songs and programmed him an editor called JV Music.
In 2018, Hörnell programmed a new driver in DUST, tuned at unusual 438 Hz.
All arrangements sound the same on every SID chip.
ZX Spectrum
In January 2018, Hörnell got curious about the Commodore 64's contemporary competitor, "the eraser". He programmed in Z80 for the ZX Spectrum 48K, but arranged only for the AY-3-8912 in the ZX Spectrum 128K.
