This page is for the TurboGrafx-16 version of the game. For the Turbo CD version, see Jack Nicklaus Turbo Golf (TCD). For other games in the series, see Jack Nicklaus.

Jack Nicklaus Turbo Golf is a golf simulation game featuring the titular pro golfer, Jack Nicklaus. The game is a port of Jack Nicklaus' Greatest 18 Holes of Major Championship Golf, which was ported to a series of home computers and consoles. However, the name was changed when brought over to the TurboGrafx-16, as well as the Turbo CD. The game offers many options; You can set many variables such as the difficulty, skins or match play, play alone or with another player or computers, and even a practice mode. For all eighteen holes, you also get an introduction to them by Nicklaus himself.

The game does suffer some flaws. For instance, there is little to offer in the audio department, the graphics, though in quasi-3D, are pretty dull for a game on the console, and the game has to redraw the entire screen most of the time, making the game take more time than would otherwise take.

Music

As stated before, the game offers little in the audio department. The music that is present in the game is very quiet (it has been amplified in the recording below for clarity). There are also a few jingles that play when your ball lands in the hole, but one of these jingles appears to be unused. If it is in fact used and you've heard this song in the game, please let us know. The sound effects also leave a lot to be desired, as they barely exist. Most of the time, you'll only hear the sound of swinging the club and hitting the ball. There are no other ambient sound effects or in-game music to pad the bleak silence.

The game does not share music with the Turbo CD version.

Though the game was developed by Beam Software, the sound was outsourced to Japanese developer Advance Communication. This most likely means Osamu Kasai and Masaaki Harada were involved with the game's sound. All the other TurboGrafx-16 games by Advance Communication credit the two, as they were the primary audio staff. These games include Kattobi! Takuhai-kun and Tiger Road. Michiharu Hasuya has been listed as the composer of the title theme, as it resembles more of his style than the Kasai/Harada duo. For instance, it is in the time of 6/8, something Hasuya did much more than Kasai/Harada.

There are no in-game credits. However, staff list can be found in the Japanese version's instruction manual. The composers were identified based on the musical styles, as well as credits found in other Advance Communication games developed around the same time.

Ripping TurboGrafx-16 music is an arduous process that is beyond the scope of this site. The music was recorded using in_vgm for Winamp.

Audio Devices

The game uses the TurboGrafx-16's HuC6280. It uses the second version of the Advance Communication Company sound driver.
