Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road is a conversion of the arcade game of the same name by Leland. The player names their driver and must race against three other opponents, with the goal to finish first. All tracks in the game fit into one screen, and the game uses a bird's-eye view. The player can use turbos to try and outrun their opponents. They can also collect additional nitros on the track that appear, as well as randomly-appearing money bags, which can be used to buy upgrades for the player's vehicle after each race.
The NES version took advantage of the Fourscore adapter, in which up to four players can play simultaneously against each other. Interesting, as the original arcade only allowed three human players; as one of the AI opponents as Ivan "Ironman" Stewart.
The game's "sister" title, Danny Sullivan's Indy Heat (NES) was also made by the same team.

Music
Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road features the arcade version's soundtrack. Because of the limitations of the NES, the music had to be scaled down considerably, but other than that is a mostly note-for-note arrangement. According to Wise, for Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road, he received sheet music transcriptions of the arcade game's score. He had to painstakingly write the music in assembly using hexadecimal numbers for notation, similar to how many other composers wrote music on the NES.
Wise said of the game:
The NTSC version of the recording starts with a 1. When the PAL version is recorded, it will start with a 2.

The original arcade game's credits can be accessed simply by waiting through the title demos. However, the NES version of the game does not contain credits. Not surprising, due to Rare having a no-credits policy to prevent staff poaching. While the NES version's staff did sneak their names into the high scores, David Wise isn't among them. We have contacted Wise, who verified that he worked on the NES version of the game. Wise also stated that Rare's NES sound driver was first programmed by Chris Stamper, and later Mark Betteridge.

Audio Devices
The game uses the 2A03 of the NES, and uses the second version of Rare's sound driver programmed by Mark Betteridge, which was expanded upon Chris Stamper's original version of the sound driver.
