An Ad Lib Instrument File (INS) format was created by Ad Lib, Inc. with the first version of AdLib Visual Composer in 1987. Later it was superseded by Ad Lib Instrument Bank format, which was introduced with the 1.5 version of the same program.
The file doesn't store music, but it does contain the definition for single instrument to be played in ROL files. Since this format isn't actually an audio format, the list of players don't actually "play" INS files, but rather utilize them when playing a ROL file.
