Gremlins is a PC Boot Loader hack-and-slay game, ported from Gremlins (A52).
Some graphics have been retouched to look slightly less blocky, the controls keep you walking until you hit an obstacle or press ENTER, and night 1 is the default (rather than night 3). Gremlins (A2) seems ported from this.
Starting with night 9, the gameplay harshly speeds up (whereas later, get-ready slows down). After you lose your last life, the current high score shows on the bottom.

Music
This port includes all original audio (except harmony) from Gremlins (A52) and converts its data from POKEY to PC Speaker just as it plays. Naturally, we hear only one sound at a time. Unfortunately, their priorities are fully unconverted: Your walk is annoyingly loud and cuts off more notable cues, like mogwai escaping.
Recording
To record every song once, the game was played:
- in DOSBox 0.74 with machine=cga.
- on a real Pentium 60 MHz with a microphone standing in front of the PC Speaker.

Game Rip
This rip is missing songs. |
All audio is hard-coded and requires a programmatic or log format that outputs to the PC Speaker. However, this is beyond the scope of this site.

Pressing the S key mutes or unmutes all audio. Starting with VGA, everything is only 58% as fast. This is because the game tries to synchronize with the screen refresh, which apparently turns out different on old and new graphics hardware.
