Grand Theft Auto is an official demake of the first game of the saga for the first time a portable console, developed by Tarantula Studios and published by Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive without release in Japan for Game Boy Color near the end of 1999.
This port suffered many changes with respect to its Windows - DOS and PlayStation version, since it had to adapt everything offered by the Game Boy Color and Game Boy (the latter the most limiting and compatible), it would suffer the change of the color palette, audio and music, textures and 3D rendering to a 2D-Isometric one and the controls to a rougher one.
Its story would not change, it would be the same (it would also be repeated in Grand Theft Auto 2 for the same console) only that with the limitations of the console the whole campaign was adapted to a more accessible to this demake and the selection of characters would be saved, only that it would be the same as what happened originally.
These versions were well received by the players and the critics almost marked it as mediocre but it remained as good versions although not very playable in many aspects that did not stand out much as a decent port.
These two Game Boy Color releases were ported to cell phones with Java 2ME system as re-release games but it was another company that did the work to make them profitable in this type of devices.

Music
Anthony Paton would be the character in charge of the soundtrack of this version and even the musical arranger, who would create everything from scratch to adapt it to the portable console chip and would adapt to the chiptune system. This would be left to the sound quality that he could provide in a maximum and exaggerated way with only 8 tracks for this version compared to the higher versions, this was technically inferior.
This soundtrack is divided into songs when entering a vehicle it starts playing randomly.
