Golden Axe is game from the golden era of side-scrolling beat-em-ups. You play as either Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, or Gilius Thunderhead in an attempt to rescue the king and his daughter from the vile Death Adder, a fiend who has slain your family. Most of the moves for each character are the same, attack, jump, and combinations therein. Each character also has special magic. Ax uses magic explosions, Tyris wields fire, and Gilius controls lightning. Gilius is the best at combat, but the weakest at magic, Tyris is the weakest fighter, but the best at magic, and Ax is the middle ground. The game only has 4 stages, but it makes up for being short by being exceptionally difficult.
Golden Axe is one of the many games to use Sega's popular System 16 arcade hardware.

Golden Axe has a very apt score. Lots of emphasis is placed on drums and brass giving the game an epic battle sound. However, there are a couple light-hearted tunes like the Thief's Theme and the ending arcade sequence music, Sutakora, Sassa!.

Credits
(Source: The game lacks credits.)
Golden Axe: The Music lists "You Takada" for "Wilderness" while Super Sonic Team -G.S.M. SEGA 3- says that Tohru Nakabayashi wrote the music. The Genesis port credits Sound to Nankyoku, Decky, and Imocky. The TG-16 port credits Music to Yuonjin, Composition & Arrangement to Shinobu Ogawa and Hiroto Otsubo, and Sound Effects tp Takaharu Umezu and Minoru Yuasa)
However, Yosuke Okunari posted on Twitter that "Y.T" is not in fact You Takada, and has asked all websites that list as such to change it.[1]
