Garrison is an early Gauntlet clone, created for the Amiga during lack of an official Gauntlet port.

Unlike the later C64 port, only 2 simultaneous players are allowed, but if one dies, you can choose another still-alive character in the same level. All characters have the same appearance. They are supposed to have different appearances if 256 KB of Fast RAM are available, and these appearances are in fact on disk, but ignored, possibly due to copy errors.

The first 4 levels are always the same. Afterwards, a random level out of all 128 is loaded. The game and music were well received, except that the scrolling slows down players with speed 3 and higher.

Music

The game has three looping mono songs which set a fittingly driving mood, but are rather groovy for a fantasy game.

In-game, only sound effects play, and each only on one speaker: Those for player 1 and time on the left, those for player 2 and enemies on the right. Most sound effects are well-defined, except possibly who hits who. The time decreases every 800 ms to the sound of a drum, but audibly slower if too many enemies are on screen. If it runs out, all doors open to the sound of a bell followed by a drum roll.

All titles are unofficial and based on where the songs are first heard.

Recording

All songs were recorded from the game in WinUAE 4.1.0.
