Game Over plays when you have lost all of your lives. In the USA and European versions after you've lost all of your lives, you are given two continues. After the two continues are used, you will get a game over. After that, there is no way to continue the level you got a game over at, forcing you to start all the way back at the first level. In the Japanese version, there are four-letter passwords that allow you to start at a certain level.
