foobar2000 is a plugin-based media player for Windows. It has a large library of plugins for most modern audio formats and pretty extensive support for the most common retro video game formats through plug-ins.

In addition to playing most popular formats, foobar2000 can convert every format it supports (including those through plugins) into several lossy and lossless formats, especially OGG and FLAC, which are important to this site. For instructions on setting up the conversion process see the foobar2000 Conversion Setup guide.

Supported Audio Formats

The program comes with the following built-in plugins:

ALAC Decoder

Supports the ALAC format.

CD Audio Decoder

foobar2000 can play standard Redbook Audio if the game disc is in the CD-ROM, as well as any audio CD.

foobar2000 core

Supports AAC (with SBR decoding), FLAC, MPC, OGG, OPUS, SPX, and WV.

Additional Formats

Supports AIFF, AU, MP1, MP2, MP3, MP4, WAV, WMA

Although foobar2000 isn't as old as more mature players, it has already accumulated a large number of components.
