Title
Composer Kenji Kawai
Released 1990-03-23
Title Origin Official

Field plays on the overworld in Sansara Naga. It was originally composed for the Famicom version of the game, but later adapted to the Game Boy Advance adaptation, Sansara Naga 1x2.

Title

The song's title comes from the Samsara Naga 1&2 Soundtracks CD. The song's name is in katakana フィールド (Fīrudo), which literally translates to Field.

Composition

The song is in the 4/4 time signature and plays at 150 BPM. It is in the key of A♭ minor. The start of the song has the two square channels playing in unison, with the second square channel detuned for a "chorus" effect. At 0:12, the second part of the song starts, where the first square channel leads, while the other plays an "echo-y" piano as backup, where the chords alternate between A♭ and G♭. At 0:25, the square channels then harmonize with each other in triplet notes with the chords being G, E, and G♭. At 0:31, the square channels harmonize with the following chord progressions of A♭ minor, G♭ (3 times), then E and E♭ minor. The part from 0:31 then repeats with the last measure sounding a little different, but still the same chord progression. At 0:57, the last part of the song plays. The first square channel plays a solo while the second square channel plays the "echo-y" piano-like instrument again with the chords A♭ minor, A6, B, E♭/B♭, and E♭/G. During the E♭/G chord, the two square channels harmonize with the same instrument. This whole sequence repeats 3 more times, with the third loop's solo sounding a bit different. Finally, the song loops from the beginning at 1:36.

It is the longest song in the game that loops.

This was the first game to use the song.

The composers wrote the music, most likely in 6502 assembly language in the second version of Advance Communication Company's Sound Routine sound driver. Because the game uses the second version of the sound driver, it is tuned approximately a ¼ step sharp.
