Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty is one of the earliest real-time strategy games. Loosely based upon the world of Dune, the player takes command of the armies of one of the three great houses who vie for control of Arrakis. A base must be established, spice is to be harvested and stored, and the enemy is to be destroyed through military might. Each house has their own weaknesses, strengths, and special units.

The titles come from a popular unofficial soundtrack of unknown origin.
The song Faithful Warriors, when heard in-game, stops at 2:21 and skips to the next track. However, if the player is currently in the Pause menu, it will be heard in its entirety. It is unknown if this is caused by a bug, or if it is a deliberate easter egg.
Recording
Roland MT-32 and General MIDI music was recorded using MIDI Decoder foobar2000 plugin. AdLib music was recorded with RdosPlay. The Roland MT-32 recording starts with a 1, the General MIDI recording starts with a 2, the AdLib with 3.

Game Rip
The game's music was extracted from the SOUND.PAK file and the sound effects were extracted from various PAK files, all of which are in the root install folder, using TheAlmightyGuru's PAK extractor. The music is stored in two formats, ADL (Westwood) and XMI. The XMI files have several different extensions based on the output device they are to be played upon. The ADL files play on any OPL2 compatible sound card.
XMI files for Roland SC-55 and MT-32 were converted to Standard MIDI using MIDIPLEX for playback in modern players.
MT-32 SysEx patchset is also included.

The original setup utility doesn't let you choose a different device for music and digitized sound effects. However, an official patch is available (d2sound.zip) that provides an alternate setup utility, allowing to select individual devices for music, sounds and digitized sound effects.
