- For other games in the series see Duke Nukem.
Like the first game, Duke Nukem II is a scrolling platform shoot-em-up that picks up where the first game left off. Duke is now a world-renowned hero, but he is taken hostage by aliens so that they may use his brain for a war machine. Duke escapes their prison and takes the battle to them with guns, explosions, and cheesy one-liners. The game is a run-and-gun where you get to blast everything, but it has some puzzle elements as well, like finding keys, hidden areas, and annoying platform jumping.
The whole game is broken up into four episodes with eight levels in each. One of the things that gives the game character is the ability to destroy so much of each level. Aside from the enemies, power ups, and crates, you can destroy advertising crafts, support pillars, even the exit sign!
Despite not being able to live up to quality of media found on the SNES and Genesis games that were being released concurrently, Duke Nukem II was very popular in the PC market.

Music
The music of Duke Nukem II is mostly a lo-fi heavy metal soundtrack. The songs "He's Back" and "Squeak" are based off of the Megadeth songs "Angry Again" and "Skin O' My Teeth" respectively at Apogee Software's request. Also, some riffs have been taken from the music in previous games like Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure (DOS). All in all, the soundtrack is nice, but at the time the low quality IMF architecture was showing its age and Duke Nukem II was one of the last games to use it.
The titles have been confirmed by Bobby Prince directly.

Game Rip
The IMF files are packed in the Nukem2.cmp file which is installed in the root directory. The header of the file contains the offsets for extracting the IMF files. The files were recorded using AdPlug 1.8 in Winamp with the "autodetect song end" option turned off to get proper looping.
Bobby Prince composed the music in Sequencer Plus Gold in MIDI format which was converted to IMF. Prince targeted his MIDIs for IMF, and a couple of these original MIDIs have surfaced In recent years. Prince rearranged a couple songs and officially released them in MIDI several years after the game was released. These files are included in the rip.
The game also uses VOC for sound effects, which are included in the download.

The game doesn't let you specify a device for music, it only lets to toggle it on and off. However, when it is on, it plays though any AdLib compatible device.
