Dr. Wily Stage 1 is played through the first two stages of Dr. Wily's base. This is arguably the most popular track in the entire Mega Man library as it has been remixed numerous times and appears on various fan albums.
Takashi Tateishi has explained that this song was an important milestone for him because it was the first song he composed that was approved by his audio director and it helped set the tone for the rest of the game's soundtrack because the director wanted more songs like it.
The track appears on the official soundtrack album, from which the title is derived. It is track 11 in the NSF file.
