Doom in Japanese (ドゥーム - Doom '), is an official port licensed by Id Software, developed by Rage Software and published by GT Interactive Software and Tec Toy (Brazil) America, Europe and Australia, SoftBank in Japan for Sega Saturn based Doom (PS1), actually a sort of compilation re-release of Doom (DOS) and Doom II: Hell On Earth (DOS), combining most of the campaign of both games with the custom engine by Midway Games (ie Wiliams Ent. ).
The story puts you in the shoes of a marine who is the sole survivor of a disastrous experiment in which a portal to Hell is opened and everyone is zombified at their base on the Martian moon of Phobos. Your mission is to fight zombies and hell spawn, before delving into the depths of Hell itself, only to discover that Earth is under attack.
The Saturn version of Doom is not the worst, but it is the most disappointing. Due to the meddling of Id Software, who refused to allow developers Rage Software to properly utilize the system's formidable 2D rendering capabilities due to the impact on image quality that this would entail, the game ended up with decent graphics (albeit slightly inferior to the PS1), but very mediocre performance.
Something similar happened to the port for 3DO but this was much worse than the Saturn, its review was very mediocre due to many technical problems to program in double processor than the Saturn one.
It remained as a bad adaptation but let's see something positive it has the same music of Aubrey Hodges and some of the covers American, European and Oceania version more elaborated for its distribution although in Japan it was distributed with the one of PlayStation.

Aubrey Hodges was the person who originally made the soundtrack, transported from the PlayStation version made by Williams Entertainment who did an excellent job on that version.
Compared to Sega Saturn the work was erroneous only what was done was copy and paste of Hodges' soundtrack, which was made some changes that John Carmack provided in the development of the game only that the music is in MP3 and WAV format (European version).
As it got bad reception the code of the Saturn port was made free and even the music not like in PlayStation which was copyrighted by Midway/Williams Ent. and ID Software.
