Platforms that are hardware-based include most early video game consoles. While they have a limited BIOS, most of the software comes from the individual games themselves. Some of the more recent video game consoles, like the PlayStation 4, include full operating systems and are classified as hardware and software platforms. Home computer systems that did not ship with a dependent operating system, like the Commodore 64, are also hardware-based.
