The Sega Saturn port of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was only released in Japan, thus retaining its original title Akumajō Dracula X: Gekka no Yasōkyoku. It is as much a port as it is an update to the original PlayStation game, adding new music, entire sections with new enemies, items, as well as Maria as a new playable character. It does have a few drawbacks over the PlayStation version though, examples include longer loading times and worse transparency effects. Overall, it's the same game.

Music
In addition to the PlayStation soundtrack, which was mostly composed by Michiru Yamane, this version features additional tracks in a broader variety of genres, branching out into Techno, J-Rock and Jazz and can thus be considered to be more upbeat as opposed to the more eerie and romantic nature of the original version.
The new material was composed and arranged by Tetsuya Ōsono, Junko Karashima and Kaoru Okada, although the game's credits do not specify who composed each piece. Most of these new tunes are remixes and medleys of classic Castlevania songs, some entirely new, like "Guardian".
Master Librarian also gets a remixed tune, the reason for that being purely technical. Some of the original tracks loop sightly differently. Almost 2 hours of music are featured altogether in this game.
