Axel Brown is a British developer.
His first job was at Choice Software. At Imagitec Design, he programmed sound drivers for them and collaborated a lot with Barry Leitch.
In the '90s, Brown immigrated to Texas, USA, joined Origin Systems (picking up Martin Galway from the airport), and switched from games to IT. He currently resides in Round Rock and performs statewide in a cover band called Fusion, singing and playing the guitar.
Audio Development
Commodore 64
At Choice Software, someone only credited as Axel (probably Brown) programmed Tank (C64), Shackled (C64), and scored Shackled with an unidentified person credited as Spud. Both games use the same driver as Cred Breaks Out (C64), scored by James Cosby and again developed by Choice.
At Imagitec, Brown programmed a sound driver, probably on a 6502 cross assembler, on which Leitch arranged music as well. At least on Weird Dreams (C64), Leitch thinks that Dave Chiles and/or Adrian Waterhouse may have made modifications to Brown's sound driver.
Both companies' drivers were always tuned at 424 Hz on PAL.
SNES
Brown reprogrammed Nintendo's Kankichi-kun sound driver. Music was entered in 65C816 assembly.
