AWS is an adaption of Chris Hülsbeck's TFMX for DOS. One file contains up to 32 songs and sound effects that mainly target the Ad Lib Music Synthesizer Card, but can also trigger Sound Blaster 8-bit samples in a separate SMP file, which only Super Gem'Z (DOS) features.

All seven known soundtracks are credited to Hülsbeck or his friend Rudolf Stember and also exist on the Amiga. They very likely had an automatic converter and only needed to remake instruments and chords manually.

In 1993, the format was upgraded to MDT.

How to Obtain

All known AWS files are uncompressed, and most reside in the game's directory, often with their original extension and the unlikely date of 1992-04-06.

Technical

Every file begins with "AUDIOS WAVE SLAVE PC", which is not checked.

Starting with The Carl Lewis Challenge (DOS), software tremolos can be added to the OPL modulator volume and the OPL feedback factor. Portamento and software vibrato were never supported. The macro commands are also not compatible, even where it was possible.

The driver is clocked at circa hard-coded 54 Hz. However, since it resets the timer at the end (rather than beginning) of the interrupt function, it runs circa 3% slower, depending on the CPU speed.

Source code has not been found, except for assembler labels (even private ones) in The Carl Lewis Challenge (DOS) and Flies - Attack on Earth (DOS).
