Yashiro Kawasaki is a Japanese musician. He started out composing music for companies such as ASCII and Hi-Tech Lab Japan before going independent as a freelance composer. He composes for all types of media including film, commercials, television, and video games. He has also served as a music producer, and even arranged for Oyunaa from Mongolia. During the 90s, he served as a composer for Pony Canyon, likely as a freelance musician.

In the world of video games, he is probably best known for his work in the SNES game Illusion of Gaia. He has also worked on the soundtrack to Tomy's Zoids series.

In addition to music composition, he has also made sound effects, and has also done some sound programming on the side. It appears Kawasaki left the game industry in 2014.

Audio Development

NES

For Puzslot, Kawasaki either used a sound driver or gave his compositions to the programmers to implement into the game (M. Yamamoto and/or M. Takeda).

When Pony Canyon contracted Crosstalk to develop the NES version of Hillsfar, Kawasaki's music from the NEC PC-9801 version of the game was arranged to the NES by Yoshio Kobayashi. Coincidentally, the two worked on the NEC PC-9801 game DragonStrike; both AD&D games originally by Westwood, licensed to Japan by Pony Canyon, and developed by Crosstalk. However, Kawasaki was a composer for Pony Canyon, while Kobayashi was the in-house composer for Crosstalk.

For Tanigawa Kouji no Shougi Shinan III, his music was converted to someone's driver, but the developer and arranger are currently unknown.

PC98

Kawasaki was unable to remember how he did the music for the NEC PC-9801 due to the passing years, but it was likely in a similar fashion to how he did music for the Sharp X68000 since some of his music was ported over to that platform.

Sharp X68000

Yasuhiro Kawasaki used the OPMDRV driver for DragonStrike, where music was typed in Music Macro Language, in which the note pitch and length was written in text.

SNES

Kawasaki developed a driver with Hiroji Sawai and Issei Okita, based off the 1.20 version of Nintendo's Kankichi-kun. It is confusing since games that use the driver give credit for the driver to different combinations of the three. It is likely Kawasaki designed and composed music for it, Sawai may have done sound effects or instrument sampling, and Okita programmed the audio engine itself.
