You play an ACME agent trying to track down a V.I.L.E. thief who has stolen an important artifact from a city in the world. The city is chosen at random and the artifact is appropriate to the city from which it was taken. You are given clues about the thief, as well as the location where they escaped. This will put you on a chase where you look up the clues that witnesses give in your trusty world almanac (that comes with the game) and figure out where the thief has gone. As they play, the game teaches children about geography and various cultures around the world.

There are many different versions of ''Where In the World Is Carmen Sandiego?''. This release is an enhanced version of the original game, but not nearly as impressive as the [[Where In the World Is Carmen Sandeigo?: Deluxe Edition (DOS)|Deluxe Edition]].

The type 1 [[MIDI]] files were ripped from the MIDISND.DAT file located in the root of the install path. The beginning of the file contains the offsets to the contained individual files. The music is played using custom instruments on an [[OPL2]] device. Until these instruments can be identified, a recording cannot be made from the rip.
