Revision as of 10:04, 1 February 2015

Hello, Malvineous!

Wow, I've never seen so many new changes at a time! You're awesome :)

But don't forget to list the contributions on your page, because it'll be comfortable to you and others to monitor and check it when something changes.

Best regards --binarymaster (talk) 06:40, 11 January 2015 (MST)

  • UPD: helped you to add your contributions to your page :) Feel free to modify it as you like.

--binarymaster (talk) 07:43, 11 January 2015 (MST)

Haha thanks! I had a bunch of songs I wanted to get out there and some time to do it, so it all came together nicely :-) Thanks for the update on the userpage, that saves me quite a bit of effort! I always figured someone would look at Special:Contributions/Malvineous if they were interested but your style of list does make it much easier. Thanks again :-) -- Malvineous (talk) 14:10, 11 January 2015 (MST)

Who are you?

  • Are you American? --M1911 (talk) 01:48, 14 January 2015 (MST)
    No, I'm Australian! -- Malvineous (talk) 03:15, 15 January 2015 (MST)

Music and Recordings

Hello!

I see you added game tables to MIDI and XMI. If the format is used widely in many games, we're not using table, but just making a link to the category. Well, maybe it makes sense to list some impressive music, let it be so.

Also here is list of some games using XMI, which are not added for now.

And another question is about Stargunner (DOS) soundtrack you just recorded. The panning sounds wrong (Title music), the game plays main melody at the center panning position, but here is right panning position in your recording.

Just checked, latest version of OpenMPT plays it correct as expected.

--binarymaster (talk) 10:39, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Oh sorry, I just saw the heading "Games" with a blank section and figured nobody had added the list of games yet! If you feel the table will become too large then by all means remove it again, but perhaps replace it with some text explaining why there's no table so someone else doesn't make the same mistake :-) However I do like going to the format pages and listening to a sample of each game that used that format, as it is interesting to hear how well (or how badly) each game used the format. That's a bit harder to do from a category page!
No problem, everything is ok! --binarymaster (talk) 13:01, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
With the Stargunner music (and indeed all my DOS recordings) I've been using the default/original MOD panning settings. I guess if there are events that change the panning these should be used - odd that ModPlug does not if they are present, as that's what I used for the recording. However aside from this, I guess the recording should match the game as best as possible? Unfortunately I have not actually played Stargunner so I am sorry to say I did not notice the difference :-$ -- Malvineous (talk) 11:57, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
ModPlug is OpenMPT now :) Obviously you're using old ModPlug Player, which doesn't support some effects (or interprets it wrong). --binarymaster (talk) 13:01, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
Oh indeed it is! I'm actually using the latest version of libmodplug but it looks like this has been replaced with libopenmpt and nobody in the Linux world seems to have noticed... I will have to investigate! Thanks for the tip :-) -- Malvineous (talk) 06:16, 27 January 2015 (MST)
I'm finally figured it out that old ModPlug Tracker (and Player) interprets 8xx panning effect incorrectly. Here are screenshots: 1 - ModPlug Tracker, 2 - OpenMPT. Max panning value for older version is 7F, but actually it must be FF, which was fixed in the new version. --binarymaster (talk) 05:58, 28 January 2015 (MST)

Adam

Can you help me with editing this page? It'll be a kind of guide to get rips and proper sounding. --M1911 (talk) 03:48, 31 January 2015 (MST)

Sure, happy to help. Do you think there is some duplication in the 'Playback' section, because many of the formats have the programs to play them listed on their format pages? Or are you meaning to focus on a different aspect? -- Malvineous (talk) 05:22, 31 January 2015 (MST)
It was meaning as a focus on getting the mosty proper sounding as it can be get, no more. --M1911 (talk) 05:25, 31 January 2015 (MST)

Templates

Hello, Adam!

I see you can edit templates.

Could you fix this issue? -- binarymaster (talk) 07:03, 1 February 2015 (MST)

Hello! Yes, TheAlmightyGuru was kind enough to give me permission to edit them. I've fixed that problem, and thanks for the reminder, I'd noticed it too a while ago but forgot about it! -- Malvineous (talk) 08:02, 1 February 2015 (MST)
