:: I'll have to try Elvira 1 again. I had to use fileswapping methods to get different songs to play on the title screen. I also recently got a hold of Jezz Woodroffe, so if he responds more, I'll be able to ask about his involvement of these games. I was actually going to see about possibly doing an interview with him. Also, there's a special version of DOSBox with VGM support. Either way works for me. If you want to upload the recordings, I can get the track lengths, and I'd be willing to make a second attempt at ripping the VGM files. --Doommaster1994 (talk) 04:05, 25 October 2020 (EDT)

:: I've uploaded the VGM/MOD files for Elvira 2 for DOS. I just ripped the title music for Elvira 1 (DOS). There's a part in the song that's silent though. Not sure if that's normal or not. :::: Yes, that's it. When I play it in the AdLib/SoundBlaster format, it's silent. I can hear a few pops, but in the VGM file, it's gone. Hey, there. Was just wondering if you were planning to do the Amiga/Atari ST versions of Elvira as well? I have the VGM files ripped for another version of the game, too. --Doommaster1994 (talk) 19:17, 1 November 2020 (EST)

: Oh! Hi! I'm already preparing AMI Vorbises and original ProTracker tunes as well. Regarding ST, is there anything but an unusual way to log Atari's format of some sort? Owning both parts (1 and 2) of the game.  --Cancer (talk) 12:52, 2 November 2020 (EST)

:: Thanks for the Amiga upload! For the Atari ST, what I do is load the SNDH file into JAM For Windows and use the WAV output option. The tedious thing is you have to sit there and record for how long you want the song to output to WAV. It appears the Atari ST has half of the Amiga's tunes, plus a few originals. --Doommaster1994 (talk) 07:42, 3 November 2020 (EST)

Favorites

I've added a new page called Editor's Favorite Songs. This will list the favorite songs for just the editors of this site so we can gauge the overall opinion of the community. Each editor is encouraged to vote for up to five songs per platform as their favorite. If you want to vote for an existing song, add your vote to the total, then add your user name to the comment in the edit code so we can keep track; for example:

2 <!-- Users: TheAlmightyGuru, YourNameHere -->

Of course, you're welcome to add a new song to the list too! I hope you'll join us in creating a list of favorites for each other and our guests! --TheAlmightyGuru (talk) 10:57, 2 February 2016 (MST)

Vinyl Goddess From Mars Songs

Hey Cancer, thanks a lot for adding song pages for VGFM. I noticed that you're using the main menu screen as the picture for each one. The image on the side should be the place where you most commonly hear the song. So, if you could, please update the screenshots. Thank you so much for your contributions! --TheAlmightyGuru (talk) 14:48, 24 September 2016 (MDT)

Glad enough to help =) I would remove that picture where necessary but how do we avoid No screenshot category? --Cancer (talk) 15:28, 24 September 2016 (MDT)
Sorry about the long delay in reply. One screenshot should always be used in the template on the top-right. This screenshot should be the one where most people will remember the song being played. So, for example, if a song is heard in stage 1 and stage 7, we should use the stage 1 screenshot because most people will have played stage 1, but far fewer will have reached stage 7. Thanks again for all the song updates you're adding! --TheAlmightyGuru (talk) 08:04, 5 October 2016 (MDT)
Alright! However, is that Ok when the same image of a stage is used more than once? --Cancer (talk) 04:48, 7 October 2016 (MDT)
One other thing, I noticed in some of your song pages with multiple screenshots you're encasing them in a table that is left aligned. The SongScreenshot template actually supports an optional alignment parameter. You can use it like this:
file.png
I intentionally used the left alignment, thanks!:)--Cancer (talk) 04:48, 7 October 2016 (MDT)

Old table layout

Hello Cancer, first of all, thanks for your glorious and great updates of table layouts!

I've found one problem with redirects, Wok (W32) for example, please fix platform names to their redirect pages, i.e.:

Windows#Windows 32-bit

to

Windows 32

Because the first one adds game page to wrong unexistent category Category:Windows.

Besides that the Platform template should be used only inside Publication template, except the releases are missing on the page.

Once releases section with publications is added, Platform template inside Infobox Game should be replaced with simple link.

Thanks again for your work! --binarymaster (talk) 08:19, 20 January 2018 (EST)

Witchhaven

So happy to see the soundtracks from these game recorded! I see that you recorded both soundtracks twice on two different devices. Could you specify in the Recording section what type of output was used for each recording? Something along the lines of "Tracks starting with a 1 were recorded with X and tracks starting with a 2 were recorded with Y." Thanks for all your hard work on this site! --TheAlmightyGuru (talk) 14:54, 14 August 2018 (EDT)

Voice Acting Files

Another question for you. I'm currently preparing the music of Lunar 2: Eternal Blue. This game uses digital streaming for both music and voice acting, and some tracks have both in them. I think it's safe to assume that pure voice acting would not be uploaded here. But what about mixed voice and music? And if we do want those, what about the two different languages (Japanese and English voice acting)?--Quantam (talk) 21:34, 24 May 2020 (EDT)

If there's no way to have music track without voice-overs (without taking pure voices into account) then better have English as the language with the highest priority on the site. However, you need to be sure that that version is one of the official releases.
So to confirm, we do want mixed tracks, but don't want pure voice acting?--Quantam (talk) 18:36, 26 May 2020 (EDT)
The game soundtrack's comprised of Audio and Voice tracks. Do we actually want to have just a voice language on this site? The vocals sung in the Audio portion is fully accepted, as well as the lyrics on the appropriate song page. The answer is include the Audio part only --Cancer (talk) 08:40, 27 May 2020 (EDT)
It's a bit more complicated than that. The music is digital audio, not synthesized. So for parts where there's both music and voice acting (not singing as part of a song) together the two combined are a single digital audio track. What I need to know (or perhaps you answered it and it's just a bit unclear) is what to do with these combined tracks that have both speaking and music, in the case where the music is unique; in many cases there are clean copies of the music in other tracks, but I know off the top of my head there's at least one track where the music is unique.--Quantam (talk) 02:12, 28 May 2020 (EDT)
Ok, this way mixed tracks are allowed. But it's better to have English version. --Cancer (talk) 07:30, 28 May 2020 (EDT)

Third Party Rips

What is the VGMPF policy regarding rips made by third parties? Do we require permission from the ripper to upload their files (with modifications to match VGMPF's filename and tagging requirements), or is permission not needed with attribution only?

Third parties are not involved in following our guidelines and rules of the site and shouldn't be asked of meeting the naming conventions or any necessities. However, uploading their rips is fully permitted with all the proper filenames as our rules want. They should be renamed by those uploading a rip. In the credits section of a game, the Ripper should read the user nickname or a website address of those who made the ripped the songs. --Cancer (talk) 05:56, 7 June 2020 (EDT)

English and Japanese Names

When a game's soundtrack includes e.g. character names and they are different between Japanese and English versions (e.g. Japanese Rong-Fa vs. English Ronfar), which, or both, should be used? I ask because the guy providing me the in-game track order of a game I'm about to upload is very attached to the Japanese names; I think I know the answer, but I wanted to get it in black and white. --Quantam (talk) 21:13, 13 June 2020 (EDT)

English titles should be used on this site. The track order should correspond the locactions where heard in that game. --Cancer (talk) 05:40, 14 June 2020 (EDT)
I imagine the answer will be the same, but to be entirely clear I'm talking about English vs. Japanese character and place names within an otherwise English title.--Quantam (talk) 18:40, 14 June 2020 (EDT)
Habitually, we try to translate the track names into English if they are problematic in terms of having binds to its original East Asian language (Chinese, Japanese etc.) but still romanized, and put only the translate name for one track rather than having several forms (including original writing system). --Cancer (talk) 12:04, 15 June 2020 (EDT)

Bulk Upload

Is there a way to easily upload a bunch of music files all at once? If not, can we get one? --Quantam (talk) 17:57, 24 June 2020 (EDT)

The wiki-based sites like this one only support a file for upload, which is bitter enough. I couldn't remember uploading an archive of tracks to fit on a recording table. Only music rips are a one file containing songs (partially or fully). There's a thing much worse than this, however, when you're going to rename (move command) a real plenty of music track (few to hundred) if you've got a new audio output preceding existed ones. --Cancer (talk) 04:02, 26 June 2020 (EDT)

Not sure if this site uses or supports any side extenstions. Try asking the same question Dean "TheAlmightyGuru" Tersigni. His Talk page. --Cancer (talk) 03:18, 27 June 2020 (EDT)

Thank you immensely for Elvira II

Hello,

I just really wanted to thank you for uploading to VGMPF both the Amiga and DOS version of Elvira II's soundtrack. Sorry if this topic seems a little useless, I just really had to do it, especially after the DOS version got put here too. I really love both, and it's especially great for the DOS version since I couldn't find it anywhere and I can't listen to it anymore in-game, since I lost the codewheel.

You are a hero.

Sure thing =)
I my self was wandering why it's missing everywhere (though only a couple of gameplay videos and an ending sequence there are 1, 2 & 3 where you could listen to some of the themes). Thank you for helping me add some info to the header of the game page and to the credits portions, as well as you previously did for Waxworks. --Cancer (talk) 05:28, 24 October 2020 (EDT)
