- This page covers the Famicom, Famicom Disk System, PlayChoice-10, and Vs. System releases. For other games in the series, see The Goonies.
Even though the movie was a huge American box office success, The Goonies never made its way onto the NES in the USA, being only released in Japan for both the Famicom and Famicom Disk System. This is a bit of a loss because the game would have been quite an attribute to any collection in 1986. US players did have a chance at playing it on the PlayChoice-10 or the Vs. System arcade machines. All four releases have identical audio.
The game is a platform action adventure where you must beat up mice, foxes, bats, skeletons, and of course the Fratellis in order to save your Goonie friends. Each stage has three keys and a Goonie trapped behind doors that must be bombed open. Once you save the Goonie and get the keys, while avoiding the numerous enemies, you can unlock the door to the next stage.
A lot of liberties have been taken to make the game more exciting, but it features enough from the movie to make it fit. Cyndi Lauper's famous The Goonies 'R' Good Enough theme is heard, one of the Fratellis attacks you with his terrible opera singing, the falling rock traps from the movie are here, the pirate ship, and even the excised octopus exists as a monster.

Music
The game's theme is Cyndi Lauper's, The Goonies 'R' Good Enough which would later be improved upon for The Goonies II (NES). The music for Stage 2 is also pretty catchy, but the rest is just short jingles, fanfares, and pretty basic music.

Game Rip
Ripping NES music is a very arduous process that is beyond the scope of this site. The recording was made using Not So, Fatso! v0.851.
