Suske en Wiske: De Tijdtemmers (also known in French as Bob et Bobette: Les Dompteurs du Temps = The Time Tamers) is an action game developed by Witam Entertainment and published by Infogrames. It is based on the Flemish comic and animated cartoon series of the time. In North America, the series is known as Willy and Wanda. The game was only released in Dutch and French-speaking countries and Europe, and never received a North American release.

The game starts in the home of Aunt Sidonia, where Suske, Wiske, and their friend Lambic are at. Aunt Sidonia reads in the paper that the villainous Crimson has escaped from the asylum and was recently seen in their area. Lambic jokes that if Crimson were to visit them, he'd be scared away by Sidonia's cooking. All of a sudden, there is a flash and when the smoke clears, Suske, Wiske, and Aunt Sidonia notice that Lambic was in fact kidnapped by Crimson.

Suske and Wiske visit Professor Barabas, who happens to have found Lambic's bowler hat in his time machine, and suggests to the kids that Crimson must have taken Lambic through there. It is up to Suske and Wiske to rescue Lambic before it's too late.

The game is broken up into ten stages; five words with two stages. Some of the pages require puzzle solving, when others are simply to make it from point A to point B. All but the fifth world can be played in any order. The locations are as follows; the haunted castle, the pirate ship, the prehistoric times, the pyramid, and finally Crimson's base in outer space.

The player can choose either Suske or Wiske for each level, though it only seems to serve as a cosmetic change and nothing more. The player can also pick up bananas throughout the level to restore all four of their hitpoints. Suske and Wiske have no weapons, so all of the enemies in the levels must be avoided.

The game was released in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, and as a result is completely in Dutch and French (the player can choose their language at the start of the game.) As a result, some translation is needed for non-speakers to understand the objectives in many of the levels. When the player completes a level, they are given a four-digit numerical password, which is easy to remember.

The game has very nice graphics and music. However, the controls feel a little sloppy. Also, because the game was most likely intended for a younger demographic (seeing it was based on a children's comic), the difficulty is pretty low.

Music

Suske en Wiske: De Tijdtemmers surprisingly delivers very well in the audio department. That may be because it was written by the famous Jeroen Tel, known for his many impressive Commodore 64 soundtracks.

Each level has its own theme that lasts over a minute or two in length. As typical with Tel's music, he mixes white noise and one of the melodic channels to create more realistic drums and percussion sounds, while the lead parts sound similar to an electric wah guitar. The arpeggios also help with the European feel of the music. It is even more fitting seeing that the game was only released in Europe.

To create the music, Tel programmed his own sound driver and wrote the music in assembly using hexadecimal notation. Jeroen Tel should be contacted for official titles.

Jeroen Tel said of the game:

I remember composing all these tunes on my Yamaha 9000 Pro (but of course in my head, ultimately, but getting those arpeggio chords just right)... trying to get the best out of 3 channels (2 FM and one NOISE (also "FM"))... one channel reserved for sound effects. I can hear it being remade with full orchestra.

A staff roll can be seen after completing the game. Though the game credits Maniacs of Noise for the game's audio, we have received personal verification from Jeroen Tel that he composed the game's audio.
