Super Mario Bros. 3 is a platforming game developed and published by Nintendo for the NES.
Bowser has once again kidnapped Princess Peach, and it's up to Mario and Luigi to save her. The players must traverse through 8 worlds full of deadly traps and enemies until they reach Bowser. At the end of each world, the player boards an airship which houses one of the 7 Koopa Kids. After defeating them, the player gets a rod which was stolen from the king of the land from whichever world the player is at, and transforms them back to human form.
The game has the familiar fire flower upgrade, as well as several other powerups. These include a raccoon leaf, which gives Mario the ability to fly, the Tanuki suit, which gives Mario the ability to not only fly, but also turn invincible for a brief period of time, the frog outfit, which allows Mario to swim easier in the underwater segments, and the Hammer Bros. outfit, which allows Mario to throw hammers at enemies. In addition to these, there are also many miscellaneous items Mario can use to help him on his adventure; he can use Jugem's Cloud to skip a level, a musicbox to make the Hammer Bros. on the map go to sleep, as well as a hammer to break roadblocks on the map to access shortcuts and other goodies.
On top of the improved gameplay, there are also several minigames that have been added in order to gain extra lives and items. Some of these can be seen in the map, and others have to be "triggered" in order to play them. These include a game where the player must matchup 3 large images to create a full picture, a memory card game, a mushroom house where the player selects one of 3 chests with an item in it, and a ship where the player can rack up on coins. After beating a normal stage, the player gets a card. If the player can manage to beat 3 normal levels and earn 3 of the same cards, they will gain many extra lives.
The game was widely acclaimed, and many have even called it one of the best games on the NES. The game was also known for its appearance in the movie The Wizard.

Music
Koji Kondo returned a third time to compose the soundtrack to Super Mario Bros. 3. There is a reggae presence to many of the songs. To create the game's audio, he programmed his music in assembly, with his own sound driver.
The part at 1:02 during the Ending Theme sounds identical to "Kokomo" by The Beach Boys. However, this game was released before that song.
